What Does a Fully Furnished Apartment Include? (And What to Pack)

The honest, room-by-room answer — from the team that stocks every apartment. Spoiler: if you can carry it in one suitcase, you’re packing too much only if it’s kitchenware.

Updated June 10, 2026 · by the Trifecta Corporate Housing team

The short answer

A fully furnished apartment comes ready to live in the moment you unlock the door: furniture in every room, a complete kitchen with cookware and dishes, bed linens and towels, Wi-Fi, TVs, and laundry. You bring clothes and a toothbrush — the apartment supplies the rest.

That's the industry definition. In practice, "furnished" varies wildly between operators — some hand you a bed and a couch and call it done. So instead of generic advice, here is the actual inventory list we stock in every Trifecta apartment across Raleigh, Durham, and Charlotte. Use it as a checklist for any furnished rental, ours or not.

Every Trifecta apartment — from our Uptown Charlotte high-rises to the West Village lofts in Durham and 400H in downtown Raleigh — includes everything below. If a furnished rental you're comparing doesn't publish a list like this, ask for one before you book.

Why this matters for stays of a month or more

On a 30+ night stay, the included utilities, Wi-Fi, and laundry are worth hundreds of dollars and several hours of setup calls compared with renting unfurnished — and compared with an extended-stay hotel you get a full kitchen instead of a kitchenette. We break down the math in our cost guide.

What’s usually not included (anywhere)

Honesty cuts both ways. Furnished — ours included — does not usually mean:

  • Groceries and consumables. You get starter supplies (dish soap, laundry detergent, toiletries), not a stocked pantry. Plan a first-day grocery run — our city guides list the walkable options.
  • Office hardware beyond a desk. Guests regularly ask us for printers and second monitors. Apartments don't have them; if your work needs one, bring it or have one shipped to the building.
  • Daily housekeeping. A furnished apartment is your home, not a hotel — cleaning between guests is included, mid-stay cleans can usually be arranged for a fee.
  • Specialty kitchen gear. A stand mixer, air fryer, or wok is a coin flip anywhere. If one item makes or breaks your stay, ask before booking — we answer in writing.

If you're unsure whether something is in the unit, ask before you book. A real person answers, and the answer is binding — that's the practical difference between booking direct and guessing from an OTA listing's amenity icons.

The extended-stay packing list

For a 1–6 month stay in a properly furnished apartment, one large suitcase per person genuinely covers it:

Definitely pack

  • Clothes for one season, plus one layer up and down — North Carolina swings from 90°F summer humidity to occasional winter freezes
  • Laptop, chargers, and any work hardware beyond a laptop (monitor, headset, printer)
  • Prescriptions and a copy of any medical paperwork (especially for treatment stays)
  • The personal comforts no rental supplies: your pillow if you're particular, a framed photo, your kid's bedtime essentials

Skip — it's already there

  • Kitchenware of any kind
  • Linens, towels, pillows, blankets
  • Iron, hangers, hair dryer
  • Router, smart TV, streaming sticks

Buy on arrival instead of packing

  • Groceries and pantry basics
  • Your preferred shampoo/detergent beyond the starter supply
  • An umbrella (trust us — Carolina afternoon storms)

Arriving by plane or train?

All three cities are an easy ride from RDU or CLT airports, and in Durham the Amtrak station sits inside the West Village complex where our lofts are. See our car-free guides for Raleigh, Durham, and Charlotte.

Traveling with a baby or kids

The single most-asked family question we get: "Do you have a crib?"

  • High chairs: available in every one of our buildings.
  • Travel cribs / Pack 'n Plays: available in most buildings — tell us when you book and we'll confirm one for your unit in writing, so you're not gate-checking a crib across the country.
  • Space: our Durham West Village lofts are 2-bedroom units that sleep up to six — a real alternative to two hotel rooms. See Durham family stays and Charlotte family stays.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Do furnished apartments come with pots and pans?

Ours do — every Trifecta kitchen includes pots, pans, baking sheets, dishes, glasses, cutlery, cooking utensils, and a coffee maker, plus a full-size fridge, oven, and dishwasher. Industry-wide it varies, so always ask for an inventory list before booking a furnished rental.

Are linens and towels included in a furnished apartment?

Yes — every unit comes with hotel-quality bed linens, pillows, towels, and a starter supply of premium toiletries. You don’t need to pack or buy any of it.

Is there a washer and dryer?

Every Trifecta apartment has an in-unit washer and dryer plus an iron and ironing board — no shared laundry room, no hunting for quarters.

Are utilities and Wi-Fi included?

Yes. Electric, water, heating and cooling, and high-speed Wi-Fi are all included in the rate. There are no utility accounts to open or close, which is a meaningful saving on 30+ night stays.

Do furnished apartments have irons, hair dryers, and hangers?

Ours include all three in every unit. These small items are the most commonly missing pieces in loosely "furnished" rentals — worth confirming wherever you book.

What do I actually need to bring?

Clothes, a laptop and chargers, prescriptions, and any personal comforts. For a typical extended stay, one suitcase per person covers it — the apartment supplies furniture, kitchen, linens, laundry, and Wi-Fi.

Can I get a crib or high chair?

High chairs are available in every building and travel cribs in most — tell us when you book and we’ll confirm availability for your specific unit in writing before you arrive.
