Furnished apartments near UNC Chapel Hill, Durham

The Triangle · UNC Chapel Hill

Where to stay when you’re visiting UNC Chapel Hill

A real home base for a UNC visit. Chapel Hill’s own lodging is limited and pricey, especially on a tour, move-in, Parents’ Weekend, or graduation. So settle the family into one of Trifecta’s furnished West Village lofts in downtown Durham — a 2-bedroom that sleeps six, with a full kitchen and in-unit laundry — and make the easy ~25-minute drive to campus. You get more room for less than a Chapel Hill hotel, a walkable downtown to come home to, weekly rates for a longer stay, and no service fee when you book direct. (Trifecta is independently owned and not affiliated with UNC.)

Very nice place! Lots of space to spread out. We arrived early evening and were very happy to find a good Mexican restaurant just steps away. Convenient garage parking is also a huge plus.

Great place, centrally located and management was very responsive when a neighbor passed out with a movie on blast. Hammocks on the balcony were fantastic and place felt very large. 8 year old loved it.

Apartment vs hotel

Built for a campus visit, not just a night

  • A full kitchen

Cook breakfast before a campus tour or graduation morning, and feed the whole family — full-size fridge, dishwasher, real cookware — instead of hunting for a table on a packed parents’ weekend.

  • Room for the whole family

A separate bedroom and a real living room, so parents, siblings, and the student aren’t crammed into one hotel room for move-in or graduation weekend.

  • In-unit laundry

Settle in for move-in or graduation weekend without living out of a suitcase — a washer and dryer in every unit.

  • Lower per-night cost

On move-in, parents’ weekend, and graduation, the campus-area hotels sell out and surge — a furnished apartment usually costs less, sleeps the whole family, and booking direct drops the 15–20% OTA service fee entirely. Ask about weekly rates.

  • A short drive to campus

A straight ~25-minute drive down I-40 to Chapel Hill for tours, move-in, the ceremony, or dinner with your student — with your own resident parking at your Durham base instead of hunting the campus decks.

  • A local team, not a call center

We own and operate every apartment, so you reach the people who run the building — instant confirmation, and easy to extend if you add a day around graduation.

Getting around

Getting there & back

UNC is about a 25-minute drive west — there’s no quick transit between Durham and Chapel Hill, so plan to drive or rideshare. The upside is your base: West Village is one of downtown Durham’s most walkable addresses, with restaurants, coffee, and groceries on foot — and you’re also just minutes from Duke if your visit touches both.

  • By car

A straight ~25-minute drive (about 11–12 miles) from downtown Durham down I-40 West / NC-54 to the UNC campus. Expect heavier traffic and road closures on move-in and graduation weekends; campus visitor parking is in the Rams Head and other decks.

  • Rideshare

An Uber or Lyft to campus runs roughly 25–35 minutes — handy on graduation day when campus parking is tight.

  • Amtrak — Durham Station

Durham’s Amtrak station (601 W Main St) is right in the West Village complex — handy for grandparents or family traveling in for the weekend.

  • Raleigh-Durham (RDU) airport

About 15 miles / a 20-minute drive from the lofts — and roughly midway to Chapel Hill — for family flying in.

Why you’re in town

Every Carolina milestone, with room for the family

Most stays here line up with the UNC calendar — and every one is a weekend Chapel Hill’s few hotels sell out and surge. A furnished Durham apartment gives you more room for less, a short drive from campus. (Trifecta is independently owned — not affiliated with UNC.)

  • College tours & admitted-student days

Touring with a prospective Tar Heel, or back for an admitted-student weekend? A calm, central Triangle base to compare schools (easy to pair a UNC and a Duke visit in one trip).

  • Move-in & orientation

Dropping off a student in August? You get a kitchen for the Target-run snacks, room for the whole family, and storage for the boxes — then a short drive to campus on move-in day.

  • Parents’ & Family Weekend

In for Family Weekend in the fall? Stay close enough to meet your student for the day, with space to all be together instead of a cramped hotel room.

  • Graduation & Commencement

UNC’s Commencement is one weekend in early-to-mid May, with the main ceremony in Kenan Memorial Stadium — and Chapel Hill hotels book up far ahead. Reserve a loft early and bring the whole family. Check UNC’s official calendar for exact dates.

Good to know

Questions before you book

How far is the apartment from UNC Chapel Hill?

About 11–12 miles — a straight ~25-minute drive down I-40 — from the West Village lofts in downtown Durham to the UNC campus. There’s no quick transit between the two, so plan to drive or rideshare. The trade-off is more space for less than a Chapel Hill hotel, in a walkable downtown. Times are approximate.

Why stay in Durham instead of Chapel Hill?

Chapel Hill has limited hotel supply and it sells out and surges on tour, move-in, and graduation weekends. A furnished Durham apartment a short drive away gives you a full 2-bedroom that sleeps six, a kitchen, and in-unit laundry — usually for less than one Chapel Hill hotel room — plus a walkable downtown and easy access to Duke and RDU.

Where is UNC graduation held, and when should I book?

UNC’s university-wide Commencement is held in Kenan Memorial Stadium on campus, on one weekend in early-to-mid May. It’s one of the busiest lodging weekends of the year for the whole Triangle, so reserve a loft as early as you can. Check UNC’s official calendar for the exact dates each year.

Is this a good base for move-in or Parents’ Weekend?

Yes — these are 2-bedroom lofts that sleep six, with a full kitchen, in-unit laundry, and on-site parking. Room for both parents, the student, and a sibling, then a short drive to campus. Many of our guests visit UNC and Duke on the same trip.

Are you affiliated with UNC?

No — Trifecta is an independently owned furnished-apartment operator. We’re simply a comfortable, well-located base for families visiting UNC, a short drive from campus.
