Charlotte Checkers vs. Rochester Americans – Things to do Charlotte NC
The Charlotte Checkers, a professional ice hockey team, plays the Rochester Americans in a three-pack set this weekend in the Bojangles Coliseum at Fri Jan 12 at 7:00pm. Most importantly, this series includes its first-ever game played outdoors in Charlotte. The Checkers are fighting for prime positioning in their division; for the Amerks, it’s an opportunity to try and right themselves after a couple of losses.
This outdoor game, known as Queen City Outdoor Classic, is a historic event and the 12th outdoor game in the AHL history. The Checkers have never played in an outdoor game before, while the Amerks have experience from hosting a game during their 2013-14 season.
Seven players on the Checkers’ roster have seen action in outdoor games ranging all the way from college matches to NHL Heritage Classics.
The Checkers are back home for the first time since Christmas, and they are coming off four straight successful games here (s). Meanwhile, the Amerks have done well on the road, picking up points from their last three away matches.
The Checkers offensive production won’t win any prizes this season, some games that the Checkers played, they struggled to score in them while others saw them run wild like in paradise lost in the jungle. They are due to face a Rochester this team will give up the most goals in any AHL season.
Zac Dalpe of the Checkers is red hot, with six goals in the last seven games, seemingly on the edge of breaking the franchise record for goals scored.
Gerry Mayhew, Zac Dalpe and Jake Wise are players to look for with the Checkers, in good form of late. The Amerks’ outstanding performers have been Lukas Rousek, Tyson Jost and Zach Metsa.
In addition to the competitions about the players, a question mark hangs over the team’s performance in their recent matches across the country, says head coach Geordie Kinnear. He stresses the need to concentrate on the matches ahead and regards the historic game with some gravity.
As the head coach says, it’s important to recognize the significant things in life. Besides, an outdoor game contains unforeseen factors that make it a rather unique and exciting experience.
