Who gets an open-air balcony on the 18th floor to watch the sunset? This guy! A fabulous 1-BR apartment has become my go-to stay for business in Raleigh. Fantastic unit, Nest thermostats, firm mattress, and a coffee bar in the lobby. Goodbye, Marriott!

Apartment vs hotel

Built for an event weekend, not just a night

  • A full kitchen

Feed a group before the event and skip the overpriced venue concessions. Cookware, dishwasher, full-size fridge — all included.

  • Room to spread out

A separate bedroom, a full living room, and a real kitchen — room to actually relax or work, not one cramped hotel room.

  • In-unit laundry

Pack light for a multi-night run of shows or a season of home games. Washer and dryer in every unit.

  • Lower per-night cost

For two nights or more, a furnished apartment usually beats a comparable downtown hotel — and direct booking drops the 15–20% OTA service fee entirely.

  • Skip the post-show grind

Event lots empty slowly and the drive home is long. Stay minutes away and the worst of your night is a short, familiar trip back to your own door — resident parking waiting, no hour-plus crawl out and no late highway haul.

  • A local team, not a call center

We own and operate every apartment. Book direct and you reach the people who run the building, instantly confirmed.

Getting around

Getting there & back

This is a drive-to venue — about 6 miles west of downtown at the Fairgrounds, with no year-round rail, so plan on a ~12–15 minute drive or a rideshare (and lean on the rideshare during the Fair). The upside is your base: 400H is in the heart of walkable downtown Raleigh, so Glenwood South, the Warehouse District, and Raleigh Union Station are all on foot.

  • By car

West on Hillsborough St / Wade Avenue to Blue Ridge Road — about 6 miles / 12–15 minutes from downtown, longer during the Fair. The Fairgrounds have large free surface lots most of the year.

  • Rideshare

A quick, easy hop from downtown — the simplest option during the Fair, when on-site parking fills and roads back up. The arena sits beside Carter-Finley Stadium and Lenovo Center.

  • NC State Fair train & shuttles (Fair only)

During the State Fair only, NC By Train / Amtrak runs special service to the Fairgrounds and GoRaleigh adds fair shuttles and park-and-rides — handy in mid-October, but not a year-round option. Otherwise GoRaleigh Route 27 (Blue Ridge) serves the area.

  • Raleigh-Durham (RDU) airport

    About 12 miles / a 20-minute drive — easy for a fly-in Fair or concert weekend.

Good to know

Questions before you book

How far is the apartment from Dorton Arena?

400H is in downtown Raleigh, about 6 miles — a 12–15 minute drive west — from the arena at the NC State Fairgrounds. During the Fair, traffic runs much longer, so a rideshare is the easy call. Times are approximate.

When is the 2026 NC State Fair?

The 2026 North Carolina State Fair runs October 15–25, 2026, with Dorton Arena as its concert-and-events hub. It draws around a million visitors over 11 days, so book your downtown stay early.

Where do I park, and what about during the Fair?

Most of the year the Fairgrounds have large free lots around the arena. During the Fair, on-site parking fills and paid lots plus park-and-ride shuttles take over, with heavy congestion — the simplest move is to stay downtown and rideshare. 400H includes secured resident parking, so your car stays put.

What's special about Dorton Arena?

It’s an architectural landmark — its sweeping parabolic, cable-suspended roof (designed by Matthew Nowicki and opened in 1952) was one of the first of its kind in the world, and it’s on the National Register of Historic Places. Beyond the Fair, it hosts touring concerts, graduations, and shows year-round.

Is an apartment better than a hotel for a Fair or concert weekend?

For two or more nights, usually — a full kitchen, room for the group, in-unit laundry, and a lower per-night cost than a comparable hotel, with no OTA service fee when you book direct. And you’re based in walkable downtown Raleigh, not out by the highway.
